Kansas City, MO to Dodge City, KS, Friday 6/16/2017

On Friday, we had to get Cali (our dog), checked by a vet. She was fine, but that took a bit of time in the morning, which we used to play in the pool a bit.

We then drove south from Kansas City to get to a small town called Independence, KS. The Little House on the Prairie Museum is located a few miles outside Independence. When Laura Ingalls Wilder's family first moved onto the prairie, they moved here. They soon then moved back to Minnesota after they realized the lands were still somewhat disputed with Indians, and the TV show mostly depicts life in Minnesota. But we know this was the spot of their KS homestead because the stone-lined well that Laura's father built is still on site, and so the house had to be very close by. The museum itself consists of the grounds, the original well, a gift shop, and some reconstructed or moved-in period buildings, like an authentic 1880's era schoolhouse. We at lunch there, and it was a really neat stop.

We stopped at a highly rated pizza place in Wichita for dinner with a dog-friendly patio for some great pizza, and lots of admiring pets for Cali and Sierra (our dogs).

We made it in quite late to Dodge City, where we spent the night in a motel off of Wyatt Earp Blvd.
